Tiago Afonso is a photographer especialized in documentary and candid work, with deep Minho roots, born in a small village of around 370 inhabitants in Viana do Castelo, in the north of Portugal. His work is shaped by a strong connection to place, memory, and the quiet poetry of everyday life. Most of it is shot on black and white 35mm film, using two cameras: a Leica M6 with black and white negatives and a Contax G1 with color negatives.
Inspired by iconic photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Frank, Eduardo Gageiro, and the Magnum Photos Agency, Tiago is dedicated to observing and preserving the subtle moments that define human experience.
Through a raw and honest perspective, he captures the harshness and silence of everyday life, along with a sense of loneliness and emptiness present in daily routines, transforming ordinary moments into a raw narrative of human existence.
